History
Founded in 1968, HSD (originally Huck Studer Design) was one of the few medical and healthcare design firms in the United States. Over time, the firm solidified a reputation for discovering effective, user-centric solutions for difficult problems, while providing a creative "family" atmosphere.
The firm's personalized team approach to innovation and client service has remained relatively unchanged, and is still the driving force behind HSD today. Our designers, engineers and researchers utilize the strengths of a team philosophy to solve even the most challenging problems. This collaborative effort combines the needs of both end users and suppliers—resulting in award-winning products that exceed customer expectations, stimulate the market, and create a better customer experience.
In recent years, the HSD value proposition has focused on the humanizing and multi-faceted integration of groundbreaking technology to solve complex problems, while enabling a technology transfer across multiple industries. By acknowledging the individual nature of each program, HSD can customize the design process to maintain each client's need for innovation and brand recognition, while increasing a product's speed to market.
In just four decades, HSD has produced over 400 successfully designed products and has been recognized as a leader in Medical and Life Science product development. An award-winning portfolio of surgical tools, diagnostic instruments, and consumer health care products showcases the firm's wide range of clients, including both Fortune 100 firms and emerging new ventures. HSD product design experience also includes consumer, commercial, and national defense products.
